Community taggin?

How do folks feel about allowing "community tagings", where users can tag other user's content? No everyone tags and no everyone's tag choice makes sense for other users and community tags would help a lot with this. The downside of course is the potential for abuse, but I think this can be managed in a wiki-way plus, maybe, some sort of approval mechanisim that would give the author final control over the tags for their contributions.
Just wanted to throw this out there. Thanks Admin maj

wiki-way
I think this is a good idea. You'd hate for someone's great post about Paris not to have a Paris tag, just because they forgot to tag it.
On the other hand, this definitely needs some sort of wiki-mechanism or other way of editing. I've seen too many sites where people tag to keep track of which movies, etc. they own. I'd hate to see a post with a bunch of bad tags because we have no way of removing them.

Wiki-tagging
That's an interesting idea: open tagging up to everyone to add, edit, and delete. I haven't heard of anyone doing that... the interesting side-effect would be user-generated navigation, since index pages are created for new tags.
Well, that's two votes for 'let's try it out'... I'll give it a little longer for responses before I roll anything out.

A third vote from me.
I agree with the idea of Wiki tagging. Ravikiran

First stab at this
If you look at any blog entry or forum post, you'll see an option to add your own tags and view other users' tags for the post.
This isn't quite what we want-- I need to add a new permission level that allows a wiki-like "everyone can edit" mode. I also want to see if I can get the author's original tags to show up in the same space...
Early feedback welcome of course.

Community tag cloud & a question
So if more than one person enters the same tag, you get a tag-cloud effect... which is kinda neat, but I'm not sure how useful it is.
Speaking of useful, do we want community tagging on forum posts? or does it make more sense for blogs & images?

my two cents
Love the idea of community taggings. It does make more sense for blogs and images, although I have run across very interesting discussions on forum posts (that can be quite helpful with regards to a particular place sometimes) that shouldn't necessarily be overlooked :)
