Washington Dulles international arrivals

I'm travelling United Airlines from GRU (São Paulo) to Washington Dulles (IAD) airport in a few weeks and I've read horrible things about the usually looooong immigration and customs lines at IAD. As I'll have only about 1h30 between my arrival (flight is scheduled to land at 6:52 am) and the departure of my connecting flight to JFK, I'm starting to worry about missing the flight. Considering I'll have to go through the whole immigration (as a non-US national)-security-customs thing at 7 am (peak arrivals period?), do you think I would have to be too crazy to keep that flight schedule?

Hmm

I'm not an expert, since I usually terminate in Dulles. You might try asking on flyertalk, but I do suspect that 7 am is not peak arrivals period. Most of the Europe flights arrive in the afternoon. I do know there's signs pointing a different way for connecting flights. In an ideal world, that would take you to a place where they'd be interested in moving you along quickly, but I suspect it just takes one customs official who looks at you funny to mess everything up...

On the other hand, if you're arriving that early, you should have a lot of options for later in the day in case you miss your flight.

Thanks, Jonboy

In fact, at 7am, IAD was very calm, and my GRU flight apparently was the only one arriving at that moment. The immigration line was well organized and took 10 or 15 minutes max. The interview was pretty quick and the ensuing security checks didn´t take long either. After that I took the shuttle to a different concourse, all pretty straightforward, and was happy I was spared of a longer wait.
