Blog entry read counts and histories

Two features from Mixi (Japan's biggest blog site) that I really like:

  • Counts of how many people have read your entries
  • Histories showing what named users have visited them

Ask and ye shall...

Counts have been enabled... the history bit is a little trickier. The permissions are configured such that either everyone can see the view history (with referers and user names where they exisit) or only admin. There may behacking involved to only allow a blog's owner to see that blogs stats.

There are also a number of "blocks" that can display the most popular/viewed content for a type or tag. We may want to play with some of these, though the general consensus seems to be "less is more" where the right column content comes into play. Perhaps some context sensative stats would be nice (ie top blog entry on the blog index, etc) as well as more "Featured" content on the front page, instead of or in addition to "what's new."
