T-48 hours

After way too many phone calls to PR, half-a-dozen booked-and-recbooked hotel reservations and hours of research, we're just about ready to head off to the Wikitravel meet up.

I have to confess I'm a spaz about travel planning. Well, some travel planning. Hand me a sarong and a one-way-ticket to Bangkok and I can wing it for day-to-day, slipping gracefully across borders, finding (or not) places to sleep, buses to transport me, and food to eat... but send me to a popular American vacation destination in mid-April with a husband and baby in tow and it's a different story!

We need a room with enough space for a roll-a-way, or a pull-out couch, or (last resort) a queen bed for the three of us. Amita has never slept in a crib and there's no way I'm putting my 19 month-old in another room. This has never been a huge problem, but apparently PR has notoriously small rooms and strict fire policies (always a good thing) about not putting any more beds in a room. Our choice always seemed to be two or three single beds or a single queen. Neither is that great. I ended up canceling our reservation at the San Juan Old City HoJo -- an otherwise good deal in a nice looking building.

Another problem has been wanting to have some flexibility in our plans. We've never been there and don't know that much about the place so who knows where well want to spend more or less time? I've tried to split the different by giving us 3 nights in San Juan, 3 in Ponce, the Southern city, and 3 on the East coast, close to the rain forest and ferries to the islands. Driving between those three destinations should give us a good overview but with out too much time in the car for AJ.

Here's hoping it all goes well!
