Odense: Day 3
We were all up in time for breakfast this morning, so we must be adjusting finally. After some yogurt, bread, cheese, and fruit I took Amita out to visit the farmers market, convienently just outside the hotel. It was cute, in the same way that all farmers markets are cute, but nothing special. The only thing that made it different than a similar event in, say Geneva or Santa Cruz was the number of oversized baby prams -- some with 3 toddlers in them.
I've been amazed by the shear number of: a)bikes b)babies c)baby prams and d)bikes tricked out with baby prams. It was a dreary overcast day stronly suggesting rain, so I finally managed to visit some of the museums in town, including the H.C Anderson Hus -- the reason many people bother to visit Odense. The local travel lit descibed the museum collect as including "scraps of paper and other memorabila" which was pretty much what there was to see. Not quite worth 10 bucks / 55 DKK in my book, but then AJ wasn't really letting me linger over any of the paper scraps.
She's been in a bit of a mood today. I think it's from lack of running-around-time as she's either been riding or sleeping almost all of the last 24 hours. We also wandered into the much more satisfying, and free, medieval museaum. It's located in one of the many circa 1500 buildings still in use around the town. Very nice display of pre-historic and medieval artifacts including a neat wall of ax heads. We skipped out on the conference lunch, unable to face another platter of smoked or pickled fish, and instead shopped for luggage (the bag we brought is on it's last leg) and got sandwhiches at a bakery.
After lunch I hit the conference and Evan, who had gotten up at 4am again, tried to coax Amita too sleep. It didn't pan out, so I ended up taking her for another walk downtown for an hour or so in the late afternoon. I now feel like I am quite familar with downtown Odense and all it had to offer. Back at the hotel, Amita finally joined her Papa in nap-land and I went to hear Ward speak at the closing keynote speech. Evan and Amita came down for the conference dinner -- me and E taking turns walking her around while the other ate, drank and talked shop with the other conference go-ers. Now Amita's sleeping, Evan's out drinking with 'the boys' and I'm enjoying some quiet time and confirming plans for the rest of out trip. It's hard to believe we'll be on a cruise in a few days!
