Odense: Day Two

We were up a bit in the middle of the night, here in Odense alternatively consoling and entertaining the babe, so I wasn't that surprised when we were woken up by housekeeping rapping on the door at 9:30am. I jumped out of bed and into the shower still more asleep than awake and managed to stumble down to the conference only 45 minutes late. Luckily for me it was a very interesting morning -- and there was a 10am coffee & danish break.

I tagged Evan out of PCG (Primary Care Giver) duty around noon and he headed down to lunch while I put Amita back to sleep. We made it down to the tail end of lunch & conversation -- which was good since I had called for a Librarian BoF lunch discussion. After some chit-chat and herring, I strapped Amita into her now happily familiar baby carrier and we headed out to explore the town.

We had a nice stroll (OK, I did the strolling for both of us, she had a nice ride) through a charming park along the city river. There were ducks and doggies and big flowers and plenty of shade. At the end of the parks there were rowboats and swanboats for rent in the wider river above a small damn. We cut back into the town and wandered up one of the many wide pedestrian boulevards that make Danish towns feel so welcoming. It's a shame that more North American cities don't follow the model -- it's pretty easy to see that pedestrian zones do not in any way keep people from shopping (which I think is one of the big fears).

We got back to the hotel after 3, just in time for another nap... this time I joined in. We woke up when Evan returned around 7pm (which kinda explains why I'm up now I guess)... The three of us headed back out to dinner and a twilight stroll. Evan and I were both ready for something besides herring and/or salmon, so we went back to an Italian place that had caught our eye last night. It was a good choice -- grilled eggplant pizza and pasta with truffle-cream sauce was a good diviation from 4 days of Danish dishes (not that I'm disin' danish dishes!). Again we lucked out with the weather and made it back before the rain...

Evan and Amita are both sawing wood...
