Odense: Day One

Evan was up before the crack of dawn this morning, partly by design and partly due to jet lag. He left early with the vast majority of our luggage to make the opening of the Wikisym conference which I hung out with sleeping babe. I didn' dare go back to sleep for fear of waking up at 4pm again, so I fussed with our nicely appointed room and made myself a couple cups of compimentary freeze-dried decaf coffee. Amita finally woke up around 830 and we grabbed some cheeses and breads for breakfast. I made the mistake of giving her some watermelon from the breakfast buffet (her current second favorite food after 'mother's milk'). I took off her PJs so she wouldn't get melon juice all over things, but I didn't think to put down drop cloths. Now that she's moble and without a restraining seat she can do a lot of damage real fast. I hope the Hilton doesn't charge us for the pink finger printed sheets. I kinda thought they dressed the place up nice.

We managed to get out of the hotel and on the train with no trouble what so ever. I guess Amita was just waiting for me to get relaxed before loosing it. Screaming baby on the train... yep, we were those people... Luckily we made friends with a nice woman and her two boys, age 2 and 5 I think. She and her family had just finished the cruise we're going to take next week and she had some good advice. Once we arrived in Odense, I strapped AJ into her backpack and she was asleep before I got out of the trainstation. I had carefully written down the hotel address and drawn a small map for Evan. Of course I hadn't done any such thing for myself... I did recall that it was somewhere near the information office, so I headed that-aways. It turns out I went right by the hotel, but was on the wrong side of the street to see it. But it was only a 10 minute walk down to the info office and then back up to the hotel -- though it felt a lot longer with 30 lbs of sleeping baby. I dont know how it is that she could be heavier when she's out, but she is...

Found Evan for lunch (more fish) and handed off the baby so I could hit the conference. Unfortunately, jet lag was also hitting me. I wasn't the only one blinking through the talks. I checked on AJ & E between sessions and they were out cold. I tag Evan back into the ring around 5pm and he went down to lead an Open Space session while I watched the still-sleeping little one. She was still out when he came back and hour+ later. I'm wondering how long she'll sleep tonight after all that. We headed back down to where I had seen some promising plazas by the info office doing my detour. We wandered around some of the looping alleys, in and out of courtyard until we found a spot for dinner.
