Arriving in Denmark

So we made it to Denmark yesterday morning. The flight from Montreal (to Copenhagen via Zurich)could have been worse, I should be thankful that Amita slept as much as she did. We were still pretty wrecked by the time we stumbled into the Hilton Copenhagen Airport hotel, thankfully located less than 200 meters from the arrivals hall. We crashed out for a nap-- against my personal jet-lag prevention policy, but we just weren't going to make it through the day otherwise. We were only supposed to sleep until noon but not one of stirred until after 4pm, local time.

Amita gently coaxed me to wakfulness by pulling several hairs out of my head, one-by-one.

We headed into town by train and walked from Central Station, passed the amazingly crowded entrance to [wp:Tivioli Gardens] (which I guess we will have to visit at some point, though I'm still not quite sure what the deal is). The sun kept popping in and out from behind lovely cummulous clouds and we managed to select a restaurant (after a few false starts) from the long row of harborfront cafes before the rain.

All the menues were confusing, not just because they were in Danish. It seems that set menus are popular and offerings of only 2-3 main dishes the norm. We ended up at a cute place called Carl's Corner and a meal of fish soup, goatcheese salad, oysters, and salmon. I can tell we're going to get our Omega-3s here. I've already had more fish in the last 24 hours than I usually have in a week.

We finished off dinner with a shared cone of runraisin ice cream that Evan had to buy so we could tip the waiter. Getting back to the airport was harder than getting out since Copenhagen has a confusing plethora of public transportation systems. AJ dropped off to sleep in her new baby backpack and staid out all the way back to the hotel. We all were asleep the second our heads hit fluffy Danish linens.
