First figure out where you'd like to go, then make the trip "fit." This said, the need to spend your credit by August is a fairly serious constraint that makes it hard to see places in Central America and the Caribbean under favorable conditions. A few years ago my wife and I won(!) a trip to St. Lucia in mid-summer, and while it was an interesting place, my main memory of it is simply one of non-stop perspiration. I wouldn't go that way. Most of American's other destinations in the region will suffer from similar climatic disadvantages, and that's without considering hurricanes...
How about Ireland? Can you augment the credit by enough to get there? If so, it's gorgeous country, well suited for cycling and comparatively economical by European standards. That might be my own preference under the conditions, since American no longer flies into Scotland -- my preferred summer vacation site under ANY conditions.
