Interesting observations, and they match well with things I've seen traveling in Russia (where the modern written language is a far more recent construct, but its roots are Greek in many ways). Do they have PECTOPAH signs, or something equivalent, all over Athens? (Hint: the Cyrillic P is derived from the Greek "rho".)
