My self and 2 girl friends and my dog are driving across the country in August. we will be pulling a trailer behind my little subaru too. We have 6 days leaving from Boston and ending up in Santa Barbara, CA.
Looking for suggested routes and things neat to see and do with our limited schedule.
Thanks for any in put.

What kind of things interest you? More of a "city person" than a "great outdoors" person? More of a history buff than a techie? And so on.
That said, you're really pretty severely constrained by schedule. You're going to have to average around 500 miles a day(!) to complete this journey in 6 days, and that doesn't leave tons of time for sightseeing. If you had more time, I would be tempted to recommend picking some standard itinerary -- the Route 66 itinerary is well described and easy to follow -- and doing the things along it that catch your eye. However, that itinerary takes 9 days (and even at that, doesn't leave tons of time for sightseeing), and that's after you get to Chicago...
Under the circumstances, my temptation would be to pick the "quickest" route, which probably follows I-80 for the eastern half and I-70 for the western half, and look for points of interest near the highway. This route has the advantage that I-70 is quite scenic once you make it to Colorado (more so than taking I-80 all the way across), and you (at least all of you but the driver!) can get some windshield touring done as you go.
Good luck. This sounds like an overly ambitious travel schedule to me; extending it by even one day would open some options that you won't have on this drive-drive-drive itinerary.
great priced audio tours
Check out http://lodingo.com/travel
They have some great priced audio tours and travel guides of some of the places that you will pass through. You can play them on your iPod personally or play in the car for everyone to enjoy. Anyway have a look around they have hundreds of tours.
