Vietnamese Pho (Noodle) taken at a local morning fresh market in Hanoi, the Old Quarter
The locals call this "Bun" It is like Chinese noodle. I had this with "Oc" or shell, in the morning of the thrid day, at the fresh market near the lake in the Old Quarter, Hanoi.
Vietnamese food taken at the Halong Bay
Vietnamese food taken at the Halong Bay
This is very much like Thai dish, stir fried vegetable with pork. Vegetables are bean sprouts, cabbage, spring onions, Chinese mustard. We had this dish at the Perfume Pagoda, around 2- hours drive from the Old Quarter, plus 1- hour boatride to the this Chinese cave temple.

Another dish of Hanoi, served in the cruise to Halong Bay, Hanoi. The dish is a kind of fish sausage, cut into pieces and deep fried. We had it with cucumber.
Pho, Vietnamese Noodle
Pho, lookes like Thai noodle, but Pho noodle is thicker and softer. The dish was fastly finished, ...
"Nice, sitting on a small low chair and having simple dining at a corner of the Old Quarter"
I had opportunity to have Pho, the typical dish in Vietnam. I knew now why Vietnamese people, especially women have good shape. Their foods always have vegetable as main ingredients. Pho is something like noodle in Thailand but the thing is it is very delicious when you eat it in such environment, in the time we traveled. It is a feeling of getting close to local way of people there.
Shopping for purses and other Hanoi local items
“I found a purse that matches my favorite so I didn't hesitate to buy it. Of course, it wasn't much costly.”
Women are very meticulous especially when it comes to their personal things. Most of them can't leave their homes without carrying some sort of a bag for collecting their things. I am a woman, so Iam that kind too. Talking about a bag, I got a purse (handbag) form Hanoi's Old Quarter shopping street. It was made of clothe. There is a broidery work on it. I got a shining green one. Also baught one for my colleague.
"Lovely, sort of nostalgic to Thailand's northern part in the old days"
See and do in Hanoi: Water Puppet Show and walking for sightseeing, eating and shopping around the Old Quarter was pleasant, sort of opening my vison to the a new living culture of a country neighboring to Thailand. Driving in Hanoi is so chaos but surprising, few accidents seen happen. The Hoam Kien Lake nearby is full of legend and the story was brought into a scene in the puppet show.
Three Days Living with Pho
I had a good time to try Vietnamese local food such as Pho (Vietnamese noodle), Bun (Chinese noodle- like) and I got to learn Vietnamese language regarding foods like Pho Ga, meaning chicken noodle, Pho Bo, meaning beef noodle. I also tried Vietnamese sweets which are called Che (meaning desserts). I had sugar cane juice too, very fresh from the juice maker! "Thit Cho", if you see a signpost with these letters, it means that place sells foods having "dog meat" as infredient! No No, I didn't try it. Dared not I!
Wet and wild family adventure in Dalat, Vietnam
I had been part of a volunteer vacation in the northern part of Thailand, with western teachers and students, to live with local hill tribe villagers. The trip, even though was long time ago, is still fresh in my memory. I can still picture in my mind when local kids running, seemingly wanting to know who we were. Many kids got a curiosity on their faces and were too shy to be close to us. But some of them smiled and even came close to our group, and only sat and looked at us. We knew that we were and always are the stranger to them.
